6-Week, Level-1 Teacher Training Intensive, Bali, Indonesia

5 September - 17 October, 2010

The Shakti Spirit Training has been running succesfully in Goa, India for the past few years, and this is the second time it is being offered in Bali.

Yoga is about transformation and freedom! The Shakti Spirit Yoga Teacher Training is designed for practitioners who love the Hatha Yoga system, including postural alignment, prop usage & Vinyasa Flow Yoga, and would like to learn more about integrating their practice with Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy.

Once a foundation in safe alignment is established we focus on conscious movement and breath, by linking the postures together into intelligent and flowing sequences (vinyasa). We also include sequences that are not Vinyasa Flow based, but are none the less intelligent in their design. The Shakti Spirit approach is very interested in the energetic aspects of the practice, such as the flow of prana in the body, or the effects on the gunas and doshas. We are as interested in what happens 'off the mat', as much as what happens 'on the mat'. We believe Yoga should be available for everyone, not just the super bendy. With this in mind, this course is not about training to become a contortionist, although of course we are working with the physical body, at times intensely. We are interested in working with real people, with real bodies and the real issues that they are dealing with.

AIM OF LEVEL 1 TEACHER TRAINING: The aim, by the end of this training, is to have the confidence and skills to become an excellent assistant teacher, and to start teaching Yoga to beginning as well as intermediate level students (please note: teaching beginners is actually the most challenging group to teach. The skills you learn on this training will be an invaluable aid towards this aim). We hope to train you in the art of 'seeing who is in front of you', and give you skills to understand how to address this particular person's needs. As well as the skills to 'think on the spot' when dealing with the situations that arise in a public class. Of course this takes time, and much of this learning happens once you get yourself out there and start teaching.

This training is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level although our hours total approximately 230.

Leonid has practiced Yoga, Martial Arts, lived in a Zen monastery and immersed himself in Vipassana meditation. Of all these pursuits, CranioSacral Therapy, Vipassana meditation and the study of human anatomy have unfolded as his life passions. After his training at Esalen and several years of CranioSacral Therapy practice, he had a calling to teach. Teaching allows Leondi to explore the endless possibilities available to us through tapping into the Innate Intelligence which resides in the body. In his work and teaching, the emphasis is on the simple arts of Listening, Stillness, and Presence.

UNIQUE NATURE OF THIS TRAINING: This course has several unique aspects that you will not find in other programs, and is suitable for those practitioners who would eventually like to share their knowledge and inspiration with others, in the role of teacher. Whether or not participants choose to go on and teach, they will find this training provides a rare and wonderful opportuntity to delve deeply into their own nature.

Learning to teach Yoga well takes a long time and grows out of having a steady and dedicated practice of one's own. On this course, we focus on participants consolidating their individual practice, understanding themselves and others more thoroughly through the insights of Ayurveda and establishing a solid foundation in the areas of: alignment and adjustment skills, prop usage, pranayama, meditation, movement-related anatomy & physiology, Yogic philosophy and teaching skills such as voice and communication.

LOCATION: SANTRA PUTRA, PENESTANAN, UBUD, BALI, INDONESIA. Penestanan is a 5-minute drive to Ubud town, or a 15-minute walk. It is an artistic village set amongst rice fields. You can see some pictures below.

COST FOR YOGA TUITION: Yoga Training Fee is US $3100. Note: US $500 deposit is payable once you have been accepted in order to reserve your space. Full payment is requested by or before 22nd August, 2010. This cost includes the Yoga and other tuition. It does not include airfares, visas, accommodation or food - apart from a once per week group Ayurvedic dinner which is included in the training cost.

Note: Please see the price of accommodation at Santra Putra below and note that the accommodation fee is payable directly to them.

ACCOMMODATION: It is suggested and desirable that students stay at Santra Putra, which has both single rooms and new, spacious twin share rooms. This is the venue where the training will be held, making it an easy option - and ensuring that you get the required rest by not having to run around too much between classes. This is a very sweet, simple, clean place, set within a Balinese family compound. The family are very friendly and used to Yoga groups. All rooms include hot water showers, fans, refrigerators and cooking facilities. They have two levels of rooms: 5 traditional rooms that are quite adequate for most people, especially those on more of a budget or who wish to stay in a room alone. These are the rooms that can be taken as single rooms (although it is possible to share them with another person). They are currently building some new, more spacious rooms, which, in order to accommodate everyone, we are asking people to twin share. If you wish to share a room we will try to match you with another group member or if you are coming with a friend you can choose to stay together in one of the newer rooms.

COST FOR ACCOMMODATION, INCLUDING BREAKFAST AT SANTRA PUTRA:

There are 5 Traditional rooms that could be taken as either single or twin share - prices are listed below:

Traditional Room Single: US $22 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $924 per person single)

Traditional Room Twin/ Share (there is one double bed and one single bed): US $28 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $588 per person if sharing with one other person)

2 x New Twin Share Downstairs Rooms: US $38 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $798 per person when sharing with one other person) - this is a very lovely, new and spacious room with a stunning bathroom, kitchenette, and two double-sized beds

1 x New Single Upstairs Room: US $32 per room per night for one person (42 nights - Total US $1344 per room for a single person) or US $36 per room per night if a couple wanted to share the queen sized bed (42 nights - Total US $1512 for a couple which equals US $756 each person) - this is a very lovely, new and spacious room with a new kitchenette, stunning bathroom and queen-sized bed.

There will not be quite enough rooms to accommodate everyone (depending on people's choice of single or twin share), so Santra Putra is arranging some bungalows within a 5 minute walk from them, to accommodate the people who book later. It is most ideal however, to stay on site at Santra Putra.

PRE-REQUISITES FOR THE TRAINING:

BENEFITS OF TRAINING IN BALI: Bali is a very spiritually rich Island, which is well suited to the practice of Yoga. Although you do not have to be at all religious to practice Yoga, the dominant religion on Bali is Hindu, making a nice fit with Yoga philosophy. It is very common to see statues of the various Hindu deities while walking or driving around town. The people in Ubud, particularly up where we will be practicing, are well used to, and appreciative of, Yoga groups. It is possible to eat very healthily and well in Bali; again, especially in Ubud, which is the artistic and cultural centre of Bali. Natural beauty is all around. It is possible to be pampered by well trained therapists with massages and facials at very reasonable prices. While it is possible to go 5 star and spend a lot of money in Bali, it is equally easy to live simply and well on much more of a budget. It is not necessary to hire a car or motor scooter, as transport is readily available. For those that wish to be more independent, it is simple to hire a motor scooter or car. Ubud town is bustling with life these days, and is located in the beautiful mountain and rice field area of Bali. There are many local shops in town, as well as a market, selling everything from artistic pieces to clothes. It is also possible to get to a local beach, or down to some great shopping in Seminyak on the day off. And last but not least, for the most part, the Balinese people are really sweet and always ready with a big smile.

VISA REQUIREMENTS: Indonesia has a 30-day visa on arrival for many countries, but it is not legally possible to extend this type of visa from within the country, so this is not the one to get. Please ensure you have a 60-day tourist visa, which needs to be applied for before you come to Indonesia. The regular 60-day tourist visa is technically non-extendable, but would cover the length of the training. If there is a chance you might like to stay in Bali for longer than 60 days, we can put you in contact with someone who can help you arrange a Social Visa. Remember to leave yourself enough time to process the paperwork etc. Please contact us for more information.

CERTIFICATION:   It is our intention to guide all participants through the training so that they graduate successfully. Successful graduates of this training program, will receive a Certificate of Achievement from Shakti Spirit Yoga, stating the date and level of training you received and signed by Rachel Hull. Occasionally there may be a situation where the teachers feel that a student is not going to be ready by the end of the training to gain the full certificate. In this situation we would speak to the student by mid-way through the course, and share our concerns and any suggestions we may have of how they could 'catch up'. If, by the end of the training, we still felt the student was not yet ready but had attended the full training, we would give a Certificate of Attendance (not accepted for Yoga Alliance Registration), and some homestudy and suggestions so that the student could graduate fully when they are ready.

YOGA ALLIANCE: This training is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level, although our training runs longer, at approximately 230 hours. Upon successful graduation, students can, if they choose, apply for RYT-200 status with Yoga Alliance. This is at a fee determined by Yoga Alliance.

APPLICATION: Please email Rachel at shaktispirit@gmail.com with any further questions or click here to download an application form. Note: the application is a Word document. If you can't open it for some reason, email us and we will send it to you in an email. Once you fill in the form Rachel will get back to you to let you know if you are successful. At that time you will need to pay your deposit, or the full fee to hold your place.

If you feel this training is just what you are looking for, and feel ready to take your Yoga journey to the next level, we look forward to hearing from you.

Namaste - Rachel Hull & the Shakti Spirit Yoga Team
