Training Details

SAMPLE TIMETABLE: To see a sample of the previous training's first week's timetable in a word document format, please click here.

UNIQUE NATURE OF THIS TRAINING: This course has several unique aspects that you will not find in other programs, and is suitable for those practitioners who would eventually like to share their knowledge and inspiration with others, in the role of teacher. Whether or not participants choose to go on and teach, they will find this training provides a rare and wonderful opportuntity to delve deeply into their own nature.

  • Reasonable sized group: To ensure lots of attention and a more personal feel, we accept no more than 16 participants on the course.
  • Course is located in Ubud, Bali - a Hindu Island in Indonesia - perfect for Yoga.
  • The training has been designed to be 'intense' while allowing space and time to integrate the experiences you are having.
  • A rare opportunity to journey into creative vinyasa sequences, as well as a strong focus on alignment and use of ‘props’.
  • Emphasis on the practical understanding and application of Ayurveda (Yoga's sister science) – including how to apply Ayurveda to asana and pranayama. Rachel and Dr Sujatha will also share some treatments and 'shat karmas' (cleansing techniques) with you that can aid your practice.
  • A chance to explore the roots of Yogic philosophy as it relates to us in these modern times.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to work with highly experienced teachers.
  • The classes will be held in a studio within a Balinese compound, which is surrounded by nature and rice fields.
  • A 400+ page training manual, plus an Ayurvedic manual, including hundreds of photographs, have been written for the training.

Learning to teach Yoga well takes a long time and grows out of having a steady and dedicated practice of one's own. On this course, we focus on participants consolidating their individual practice, understanding themselves and others more thoroughly through the insights of Ayurveda and establishing a solid foundation in the areas of: alignment and adjustment skills, prop usage, pranayama, meditation, movement-related anatomy & physiology, Yogic philosophy and teaching skills such as voice and communication.

LOCATION: SANTRA PUTRA, PENESTANAN, UBUD, BALI, INDONESIA. Penestanan is a 5-minute drive to Ubud town, or a 15-minute walk. It is an artistic village set amongst rice fields. You can see some pictures of the venue on the next page.

COST FOR YOGA TUITION: Yoga Training Fee is US $3100. Note: US $500 deposit is payable once you have been accepted in order to reserve your space. Full payment is requested by or before 25th July, 2010. This cost includes the Yoga and other tuition. It does not include airfares, visas, accommodation or food - apart from a once per week group Ayurvedic dinner which is included in the training cost.

MEALS: Very reasonably priced meals are available at clean and healthy local 'warungs' (local restaurants) - at least three of them are located within a couple of minutes walk past the ricefields from our venue (one even has wifi). As well, there are dozens of restaurants in Ubud town itself which cater to healthy minded people, including safe places to eat salads, which use clean water etc. For those staying at Santra Putra, breakfast is included in the room cost - we will also supplement the breakfast with some extra 'healthy' options. For those not staying at Santra Putra, you are welcome to join in the Santra Putra breakfast for a small fee on days that you feel like it. Or it is easy to eat next door at one of the 'warungs'. Many places in town even home-deliver.

ACCOMMODATION: It is suggested and desirable that students stay at Santra Putra, which has both single rooms and new, spacious twin share rooms. This is the venue where the training will be held, making it an easy option - and ensuring that you get the required rest by not having to run around too much between classes. This is a very sweet, simple, clean place, set within a Balinese family compound. The family are very friendly and used to Yoga groups. All rooms include hot water showers, fans, refrigerators and cooking facilities. They have two levels of rooms: 5 traditional rooms that are quite adequate for most people, especially those on more of a budget or who wish to stay in a room alone. These are the rooms that can be taken as single rooms (although it is possible to share them with another person). They are currently building some new, more spacious rooms, which, in order to accommodate everyone, we are asking people to twin share. If you wish to share a room we will try to match you with another group member or if you are coming with a friend you can choose to stay together in one of the newer rooms.

Note: The accommodation fee is to be paid directly to Santra Putra once you get to Bali.

COST FOR ACCOMMODATION, INCLUDING BREAKFAST AT SANTRA PUTRA:

There are Traditional rooms that could be taken as either single or twin share, as well as a couple of newer rooms- prices are listed below and pictures are on the next page:

Traditional Room If Taken As A Single: US $22 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $924 per person single).

Traditional Room Twin/Double If Shared (there is one double bed and one single bed): US $28 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $588 per person if sharing with one other person).

2 x New Twin Share Downstairs Rooms: US $38 per room per night (42 nights - Total US $798 per person when sharing with one other person) - these are very lovely, new and spacious rooms with a stunning bathroom & kitchenette and two double beds. Note: the picture on the next page shows one double and one single, but the rooms now have two double beds.

There may not be quite enough rooms to accommodate everyone (depending on people's choice of single or twin share), so Santra Putra is arranging some bungalows within a 5 minute walk from them, to accommodate the people who book later. Please book your accommodation as early as possible, however, to ensure your comfort, as bungalows book up fast around here. It is most ideal to stay on site at Santra Putra (remember we start pranayama classes at 6.30am, so you don't want to have to travel too far).

PRE-REQUISITES FOR THE TRAINING:
  • 2 years of regular prior Yoga practice is required.
  • You must be open-minded and prepared to learn different techniques and approaches to teaching and learning.
  • A keen interest in Ayurveda and learning is an advantage.
  • You will need to be self-reliant, able to process your emotions maturely, and COMMITTED TO FULL ATTENDANCE in order to successfully complete the course.

BENEFITS OF TRAINING IN BALI: Bali is a very spiritually rich Island, which is well suited to the practice of Yoga. The people in Ubud, particularly up where we will be practicing, are well used to, and appreciative of, Yoga groups. It is possible to eat very healthily and well in Bali; again, especially in Ubud, which is the artistic and cultural centre of Bali. Natural beauty is all around. It is possible to be pampered by well trained therapists with massages and facials at very reasonable prices. While it is possible to go 5 star and spend a lot of money, it is equally easy to live simply and well on much more of a budget. It is not necessary to hire a car or motor scooter, as transport is readily available. For those that wish to be more independent, it is simple to hire a motor scooter or car. Ubud town is busy and bustling with life these days, and our training is located just outside town in the more peaceful rice field area. There are many local shops in town, as well as a market, selling everything from artistic pieces to clothes. It is also possible to get to a local beach, or down to some great shopping in Seminyak on the day and a half off. Beaches are about one hour drive by car, as is Seminyak/Legian. And last but not least, for the most part, the Balinese people are really sweet and always ready with a big smile.

VISA REQUIREMENTS: NOTE: THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES TO THIS SECTION: Indonesia has a 30-day visa on arrival for many countries, that is now possible to extend for an extra 30 days. So if you want to stay for a maximum of 60 days, you could easily do it this way - although double check if this is permitted using your country's passport. If you live in a place with an Indonesian Consulate, it is usually possible to get a 60-day visa before you come, which is another way to do it so that you don't have to extend from here. If there is a chance you might like to stay in Bali for longer than 60 days, we can put you in contact with someone who can help you arrange a Social Visa - which gives you an initial 60 days, and then the option to extend each month - giving you a maximum total stay time of 6 months. If you choose the Social visa, or to get a visa before you arrive, remember to leave yourself enough time to process the paperwork etc. Please contact us for more information.

YOGA ALLIANCE: This training is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level, although our training runs longer, at approximately 230 hours. Upon successful graduation, students can, if they choose, apply for RYT-200 status with Yoga Alliance. This is at a fee determined by Yoga Alliance.
